The Aronia genus (the Chokeberries), contains three species of deciduous shrubs, Aronia arbutifolia, Aronia melanocarpa, and Aronia prunifolia. All three are native to eastern North America.
Chokeberries are cultivated as ornamental landscaping shrubs, however because they contain high amounts of antioxidant pigment compounds, (such as anthocyanins) they are also cultivated and grown for this.

The Aronia Chokeberries are often confused with Chokecherries, (Prunus virginiana) which is also a shrub species in the Prunus Genus.
