Species of the Forsythia genus are deciduous shrubs typically growing to a height of 1m to 3m (3-9 ft.) and, rarely, up to 6m (18 ft). The steams and branches of Forsythia are rough grey and or brown bark.
Forsythia flowers are produced in the early spring before the leaves. The flowers are bright yellow and because they bloom before the leaves emerge, this makes Forsythia shrubs quite striking for early springtime color.

Forsythias are popular early spring flowering shrubs in gardens and parks. Two species of Forsythia are commonly cultivated for ornament, Forsythia intermedia and Forsythia suspensa. They are both spring flowering shrubs, with yellow flowers. They are grown and recognized for being tough, reliable garden shrubs.
